The global elite have never been closer to their goal of a united world. Thanks to a series of interlocking treaties and international agreements, the governance of this planet is increasingly becoming globalized and centralized, but most people don’t seem alarmed by this at all.
In the past 30 days, we have seen some of the biggest steps toward a one world government, a one world economy and a one world religion that we have ever witnessed, but these events have sparked very little public discussion or debate. So please share this article with as many people as you can. We need to wake people up about this before it is too late.
From September 25th to September 27th, the United Nations launched a “new universal agenda” for humanity. Those are not my words, they actually come directly out of the core document for this new agenda. The Pope traveled to New York City to give the address that kicked off this conference, thus giving his considerable endorsement to this new plan. Virtually every nation on the entire planet willingly signed up for the 17 goals that are included in this plan, but this stunning turn of events made very few international headlines.
The United Nations is promising that if we all work together that we can turn our planet into some kind of “utopia”, but the truth is that all of this talk about “unity” masks a very insidious agenda. The following comes from a recent piece by Paul McGuire, the author of a groundbreaking new book entitled “The Babylon Code”…
The UN is not asking permission, but issuing a command that the entire planet will commit to 17 sustainable development goals and 169 sustainable development targets designed to radically transform our world by 2030. The UN 2030 plan promoted by the Pope will advance Agenda 21 on steroids.
Through a controlled media the mass populations will be told that this is all about saving the environment and “ending poverty.” But that is not the true agenda of Agenda 21. The true agenda of Agenda 21 is to establish a global government, global economic system, and global religion. When UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon spoke of “a dream of a world of peace and dignity for all” this is no different than when the Communists promised the people a “workers paradise.”
For the general population, “the 2030 Agenda” has been rebranded as “the global goals”. On September 26th, some of the biggest names in the music world (including Beyonce) promoted these new “global goals” at the “Global Citizen Festival” that was held in Central Park. And you can watch a YouTube video where some of the most famous names on the entire planet urge all of us to get behind these new “global goals” right here.
None of this is by accident. We are being trained to think of ourselves as “global citizens” that belong to a “global community”. Decades ago, most Americans would have been up in arms over something like this. But now most people just seem to accept these changes passively. Very powerful secret societies and international organizations have been moving us in this direction for a very long time, and most Americans simply have no idea what is happening. Here is more from Paul McGuire…
The United Nations is a de facto global government and does not rule by the “consent of the governed.” The United Nations is a global government to which American politicians of both parties have surrendered our Constitutional rights. If you look at the Republican Presidential debates you see the vast majority of those running are “bought men and women.” They are there to do the bidding of their true masters, the international banking families and their interlocking secret societies. If a candidate has a different set of beliefs than the “Orwellian group think” which constitutes domestic and foreign policy, he is allowed to go only so far.
Who are these powerful elite groups and the secret societies that run them? As we extensively document in our new book, The Babylon Code, co-authored by this author and Troy Anderson, a Pulitzer Prize-nominated investigative journalist, there exists a very real network of semi-secretive and secret groups. Groups like The Council on Foreign Relations, The Trilateral Commission, Royal Institute of International Affairs, United Nations, Club of Rome, The Bilderberg Group, and others control presidents, prime ministers, media networks, politicians, CEO’s, and entire nations. You will almost never hear any substantive analysis by the media, which is controlled by these groups nor of attempts at holding them accountable by governments around the world.
Another way that our planet is being “united” is through the use of international trade agreements.
The ultimate goal is for the entire world to become a “single market” with uniform laws, rules and regulations. But as we merge our economy with the rest of the globe, the United States has been losing tens of thousands of businesses and millions of jobs as the monolithic corporations that now dominate our economy shift production to areas where labor is much cheaper. This is absolutely destroying the middle class, but very few people seem to care.
Negotiations for one of the biggest international trade treaties that the world has ever seen recently concluded. The Trans-Pacific Partnership, also known as “Obamatrade”, would represent a giant step toward a truly unified global economy. The following is an excerpt from one of my previous articles…
We have just witnessed one of the most significant steps toward a one world economic system that we have ever seen. Negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership have been completed, and if approved it will create the largest trading bloc on the planet. But this is not just a trade agreement.
In this treaty, Barack Obama has thrown in all sorts of things that he never would have been able to get through Congress otherwise. And once this treaty is approved, it will be exceedingly difficult to ever make changes to it. So essentially what is happening is that the Obama agenda is being permanently locked in for 40 percent of the global economy.
The United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam all intend to sign on to this insidious plan. Collectively, these nations have a total population of about 800 million people and a combined GDP of approximately 28 trillion dollars.
And do you want to know who pushed really hard to give Obama fast track negotiating authority so that these negotiations could be brought to a successful conclusion?
It was the traitorous Republican leadership in Congress. They did everything that they could to pave the way for Obamatrade.
We are also seeing some stunning moves in the direction of a one world religion.
In recent years, you may have noticed that it has become very trendy to say that all religions are just different paths to the same God. In fact, many prominent religious leaders are now openly proclaiming that the two biggest faiths on the entire planet, Christianity and Islam, worship the exact same deity.
For example, just consider what the Pope is saying publicly on this matter. The following is an extended excerpt from one of my recent articles on End of the American Dream…
What Pope Francis had to say at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan has received very little coverage by the mainstream media, but it was exceedingly significant. The following is how he began his address…
I would like to express two sentiments for my Muslim brothers and sisters: Firstly, my greetings as they celebrate the feast of sacrifice. I would have wished my greeting to be warmer. My sentiments of closeness, my sentiments of closeness in the face of tragedy. The tragedy that they suffered in Mecca.
In this moment, I give assurances of my prayers. I unite myself with you all. A prayer to almighty god, all merciful.
He did not choose those words by accident. In Islam, Allah is known as “the all-merciful one”. If you doubt this, just do a Google search.
And this is not the first time Pope Francis has used such language. For instance, the following comes from remarks that he made during his very first ecumenical meeting as Pope…
I then greet and cordially thank you all, dear friends belonging to other religious traditions; first of all the Muslims, who worship the one God, living and merciful, and call upon Him in prayer, and all of you. I really appreciate your presence: in it I see a tangible sign of the will to grow in mutual esteem and cooperation for the common good of humanity.
The Catholic Church is aware of the importance of promoting friendship and respect between men and women of different religious traditions – I wish to repeat this: promoting friendship and respect between men and women of different religious traditions – it also attests the valuable work that the Pontifical Council for interreligious dialogue performs.
Pope Francis clearly believes that Christians and Muslims worship the exact same God. And so that helps to explain why he authorized “Islamic prayers and readings from the Quran” at the Vatican for the first time ever back in 2014.
What is happening is undeniable.
We are steamrolling toward a one world government, a one world economy and a one world religion.
Of course we will not get there overnight. It is going to take some time, and there are going to be quite a few bumps along the way. In fact, I believe that our planet will experience an extreme amount of chaos before we actually get there.
But every major crisis will be used as an excuse to advance this agenda. Virtually every solution that the elite offer us will involve more globalization and more centralization. We will be told that all of our problems will be solved if humanity will just come together in unity.
For some, the goal of a “united planet” where we are all working together to eradicate things like poverty, war and disease makes all the sense in the world.
For others, a one world government, a one world economy and a one world religion would simply mean setting the stage for “one world tyranny”.

Recently released maps that purport to demonstrate a progressive theft of Palestinian land by Israel since the late 1940’s, have caused an uproar in news circles.
The highly controversial graphics were aired on cable news network MSNBC, which later labeled them “factually wrong” in an apologetic retraction.
Perhaps the most obvious discrepancy was reflected in the first of the four maps which showed Palestine, a state that has never formally existed.
Based on the maps, MSNBC anchors Kate Snow and Martin Fletcher concluded that the areas where the Palestinians have been living have “grown significantly smaller” since 1946 and further described the progression displayed as ‘shocking”.
The Washington Free Beacon reported that the images promoted by the network have long been criticized by scholars and anti-Semitism watchdog groups as mere anti-Israel propaganda.
Other experts have also reportedly described the maps as factually inaccurate and highly misleading.
One such reported analysis is that of Breitbart’s Pamela Geller, which in part stated: “The fallaciousness of the map MSNBC used is demonstrated by one simple fact: the flag of Palestine before 1948 featured the Star of David. This is further proof … of the falsity of the vicious historical revisionism by the Muslim world to erase the Jewish State and create a mythical Islamic narrative surrounding five thousand years of Jewish history”.
Another attempt to set the historical record straight was also made by Shany Mor, former director for foreign policy of the Israeli National Security Council. Mor stated that “…none of pre-1948 Palestine was under the political authority of Arabs or Jews.
It was ruled by the British Mandatory government, established by the League of Nations for the express purpose of creating a ‘Jewish National Home.’ It was also—contrary to the claims of innumerable pro-Palestinian activists—the first time a discrete political entity called ‘Palestine’ existed in modern history. And this entity was established in order to fulfill a goal that was essentially Zionist in nature.”
Mor observes that another misleading aspect of the maps is that all non-Jewish owned land is labeled Palestinian. This view, Mor states “…was quite simply not the case”. Additionally, the maps should also show small patches of private Arab land alongside the privately owned Jewish lands, which they do not.
However, the MSNBC broadcast was welcomed and presumed accurate by anti-Israeli activists and journalists, who hailed the network for its analysis. This support is evidently derived from the larger context of the Middle East crisis, and endeavors to further highlight supposed encroachments on Arab land through historical Jewish aggressions.
One might think that the recent MSNBC map distortion was an isolated ‘once in a blue moon’ type oversight.
Yet, there seems to be an increasing number of similar cases in which otherwise reputable map publishers tend to overlook the geographical existence of Israel.
In some past events reported over the past few years:
1. Israel was named Palestine in a map given to Paris schools in an incident reported in September 2015. The omission was blamed on a production error;
2. At the San Diego State University, California in 2013, investigations found that the omission of Israel in a map was deliberate, “in order to reflect the views of Arabic speakers in the Middle East”;
3. Late 2014, UK publishers Harper Collins apologized for the omission of Israel from their Collins Middle East Atlas. It would reportedly have been “unacceptable” to include Israel in atlases intended for the Middle East, so Israel was deleted to satisfy “local preferences.”
4. Giant publisher for children’s books, Scholastic., Inc, omitted Israel from their map publications in 2013. At the time the incident was reported, they remained non-committal as to whether they would correct the omission.
5. In March an Air France in-flight map omitted Israel. This anomaly, described by the airline as a “map scale and display problem” was discovered by a passenger who then blew the whistle. Similarly, in 2009, British Midland International Airlines apologized for omitting Israel from their in-flight maps, also attributed to a technical error.
It would be hard to find such examples of other nations being omitted or factually distorted on such a regular basis. Why is this?
These cases suggest a subtle ongoing propaganda war which some Bible scholars believe will eventually culminate in an international clamor for the total annihilation of Israel and her official removal from the world map:
They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee (Psalm 83:4, 5).
There seems to be no end to the lengths Fakestinians will go to in their attempt to steal the Promised Land from the Jewish people. During the course of a conversation I had with one of them some time ago, he claimed his people were the original Jews, who had converted to Islam.
One of their more regular arguments is that the Jews aren’t indigenous, they are from other parts of the world. I pointed out to one of the journalists working for the propaganda machine: Maan News Agency, that her family name contained the name of the village they came from in Syria. This is common. Over 50% of Arab families living in Gaza are Egyptian. The vast majority of those claiming to be indigenous Palestinians in the West Bank have their family roots in Arab countries, from where they migrated to find work in the Zionist project. Their deified terrorist leader – Yasser Arafat was Egyptian, as was his father. His mother was born in Gaza during the Egyptian occupation.
Their latest absurdity is their claim that the most famous Jew of all time – Jesus Christ, was Palestinian! This is the Jesus Christ who was born in Bethlehem, Judea, 135 years before the Roman emperor Hadrian renamed the land Syria-Palestina. From which we get the English name Palestine. Ask one of those Fakestinians to explain how they got the name when there isn’t a ‘P’ in the Arab language.
We can expect little else if we take into account the absolute garbage these people are taught as history in Arab (especially Palestinian Authority) educational institutions. But there is no justification for Western journalists, who have unfettered access to accurate historical data, to propagate these lies. It is anti-Semitism, pure and simple!
The Jesuit indoctrinated LBC broadcaster – James O’Brien, smugly covers his anti-Semitic butt when he refers to Jesus Christ as a “Palestinian Hippy”. In doing so he commits the most anti-Semitic of acts – robbing a Jew of his identity and homeland. After all, that was why Hadrian gave the name. But O’Brien is smug in the knowledge that no Jewish organisation would take him to task over the issue because it concerns Jesus Christ, and Christian organisations turn the other cheek.

Did you forget your password this week? If so you are not alone.
The average person now has 26 online accounts and that number is set to grow with nearly one in five people signing up for six or more new accounts per month.
Remembering a huge number of different passwords is simply impossible for most of us and as such some polls are showing most of us are limiting our passwords to no more than five. But using the same password across accounts can leave people exposed to hackers.
Especially when nearly 50% of us use unsafe passwords like notable dates and the names of our pets. Or perhaps you are part of the top 5 passwords of 2014: “123456”, “password”, “12345”, “12345678” and “qwerty” (top letters of the keyboard if you’re wondering what “qwerty” is).
For financial companies, the forgetting of passwords can have a direct impact on their bottom line with the loss of potential revenue.
In a survey conducted by Norstat of over 10,000 people, they found that almost 53% of shoppers forget their passwords once a week causing them to drop the transactions.
Ajay Bhalla, President of enterprise security at MasterCard claims that cumbersome security and the need to remember passwords is actually the biggest hindrance to further growth of e-commerce.
If MasterCard and Visa have their way, passwords could soon be a thing of the past.
The two payment giants have been working on a number of biometric technologies in order to beef up security while making it easier to use.
MasterCard is rolling out its pilot program called the ‘MasterCard Identity Check’ which will allow a selected group of its customers to make purchases online and authenticate them with the help of biometrics alone.
Visa executive director, Jonathan Vaux, credits technology companies (and rivals in mobile payments) Apple and Samsung for bringing biometric technology to the masses.
He said: “Fingerprint biometrics in particular are entering the mainstream as a security measure, with the likes of Apple and Samsung relying on biometric security to enter their phones, and more recently the launch of Touch ID and Apple Pay.”
Most industry experts believe the final solution will involve some kind of combination of biometric authentication. Fingerprint authentication, facial recognition (requiring users to blink once
so that their photos cannot be used to bypass security) and voice recognition are all some of the technologies that are being explored.
This point of view is also endorsed by PayPal, another behemoth in the online payments space. Their technology evangelist, Bill Smith, also credited Apple for incorporating their Touch ID
fingerprint authentication system in their phones as the major cause for all their competitors adopting similar solutions.
As technology trickles down to mid-range and budget phones, the opportunity to kill off the password presents itself like never before.
Forecasts are that by 2020 over $5.6 trillion of payments will be secured by biometric technology.
Cyber financial crime is a multi-million dollar rip-off that everyone who pays, or is paid over the Internet is vulnerable to. The determination of financial institutions to do away with cash is bringing about the Mark Of The Beast system. As more and more people find their bank accounts hacked and robbed, the call for better security gets louder.
The more cynical amongst us might even suspect there to be collusion between the banks and the hackers, or at least the banks allowing the hackers limited success to help the banks achieve their ultimate goal of a biometric implant or tattoo, without which you will not be able to buy or sell.

Billions of barrels of oil have been discovered in Israel, and this discovery could essentially make Israel energy independent for many decades to come. But there is just one problem. This discovery was made in the Golan Heights.
If you are not familiar with the Golan Heights, it is an area that Israel took from Syria during the Six-Day War of 1967. The government of Israel considers the Golan Heights to now be part of Israeli territory, but the United Nations does not recognize Israel’s claim. Instead, the UN still recognizes Syrian sovereignty over that area.
So now that massive amounts of oil have been discovered there, what will this do to tensions in the region? Could this discovery of oil help set the stage for World War III?
When I first read about the discovery of all this oil, I was quite stunned. Ever since 1948, Israel has had to import virtually all of the oil that it uses, and so this oil in the Golan Heights could be a huge game changer. The following is an excerpt from an article in an Israeli news source about this discovery…
Three drillings have so far taken place in the southern Golan Heights which have found large reserves of oil. Potential production is dramatic – billions of barrels, which will easily provide all Israel’s oil needs. Israel consumes 270,000 barrels of oil per day.
Although the existence of the oil in the ground is a fact, the critical phase now is to check how easily it can be extracted and whether it involves high production costs. In a period of very low oil prices, extraction will have to be relatively cheap to make exploitation of the field profitable.
Just as Israel’s offshore Mediterranean gas discoveries have created an entire energy industry, so the Golan oil find could also generate a new industry around it.
As I write this, the price of U.S. oil is sitting at $48.13 a barrel, so when you are talking about “billions” of barrels of oil you are talking about a tremendous amount of money.
Do you think that Syria and Israel’s other Arab neighbors are going to enjoy sitting there as Israel pumps “their oil” out of the ground?
Apparently this discovery is highly unusual. Here is what one scientist told Israeli television about what they found…
“We are talking about a strata which is 350 meters thick and what is important is the thickness and the porosity. On average in the world strata are 20-30 meters thick, so this is ten times as large as that, so we are talking about significant quantities,” geologist Yuval Bartov of Afek Oil and Gas told Israeli television.
Needless to say, this is great news for Israel.
But it is also going to give renewed motivation to those that wish to take the Golan Heights back from the Israelis. The following comes from a Jewish news source…
Syria has claimed the entire Golan since it lost the strategic and water-rich area in the Six-Day War in 1967.
If oil can be extracted, it will be a huge bonanza for Israel and an enormous reason for whoever rules in Syria, or for Hezbollah that is fighting with Assad’s forces and is based in Lebanon, to launch a war on Israel.
And this comes at a time when tensions between the Israelis and the Palestinians have reached a fever pitch. Israeli security forces and Palestinian protesters have been regularly clashing in the heart of Jerusalem, and Palestinians were even temporarily banned from Jerusalem’s Old City for the first time in decades due to a series of recent stabbings and shootings.
Things have gotten so bad that Benjamin Netanyahu felt that he had to cancel his upcoming visit to Germany just to deal with the crisis. The following comes from Reuters…
Israel’s prime minister canceled a visit to Germany on Wednesday after a spate of attacks that included the stabbing of an Israeli soldier by a suspected Palestinian militant who police said was then shot dead by special forces.
A steady rise in street violence, which Israeli and Palestinian leaders have sought to calm, has been fueled by confrontations around Jerusalem’s al Aqsa mosque complex, Islam’s third holiest shrine which Jews also revere as the vestige of their two ancient temples.
In the third knife attack in Jerusalem in less than a week, a young Palestinian woman stabbed an Israeli on Wednesday near that contested site and was then shot by the injured man.
The international community has become desperate to find a solution to this never ending cycle of conflict and violence. The call to establish a Palestinian state has become deafening, and most global leaders seem to believe that two states living side by side in peace could finally bring stability to the region.
Many had expected France to introduce a UN Security Council resolution which would give formal recognition to a Palestinian state last month, and there is still a chance that it may be submitted for a vote in the weeks ahead. France has indicated that it will not go ahead without U.S. approval, and so that means that the fate of the division of the land of Israel lies in the hands of Barack Obama.
So what will he ultimately do?
According to Politico, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid has twice asked Obama to publicly announce that he would veto any such resolution, but Obama never responded…
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid on two different occasions this year went to White House chief of staff Denis McDonough seeking a public commitment from President Barack Obama that he would veto any U.N. resolution calling for an independent Palestinian state.
Both times, Obama did nothing.
And in recent months there have been other signs that Obama is weighing his options…
In June, Obama and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power declined to commit to blocking a Palestinian resolution.
Behnd the scenes, Reid — who is Obama’s most steadfast ally on Capitol Hill — first approached McDonough shortly after Earnest’s comments and asked that the president reverse his position.
McDonough said the White House “would look into it,” said a source close to the issue, but took no action.
On the second occasion, Reid, a strong supporter of Israel during his career in the Senate, believed such a declaration by Obama would help assuage nervous Senate Democrats as they weighed whether to back the president on the Iran nuclear deal. Reid was hopeful that he could block the Iran disapproval resolution, but he wanted to be certain he would have the votes in the face of fierce opposition from pro-Israeli groups.
When push comes to shove, I fully expect that Barack Obama will eventually give his full public support to the UN Security Council resolution that France has been working on.
I believe that we will see an internationally-recognized Palestinian state, but I also believe that this will just set the stage for war on a scale that the Middle East has never experienced before.
With regard to the Israeli oil find, and their recent massive gas discoveries. I believe the drop in price of these commodities is due to the world and its god wanting to make sure Israel doesn’t become a super rich nation, similar to those of OPEC. If over production doesn’t achieve that, Gog will soon be coming to take a spoil.

You know that dystopian future that George Orwell painted in his famous book ’1984’? Well, what may have seen as paranoid and outlandish at the time the book was released is fast becoming reality.
While recent leaks by Edward Snowden revealed just how extensively the government was intruding on the privacy of citizens, there has been little effort or interest in covering the same practice in corporations.
Companies are increasingly being tempted to monitor, track, compare and rate their employees, right down to the level of eventually recording every employee statement and action.
The ubiquitous nature of technology has made tracking and monitoring a person easier than ever before and now employers are using more sophisticated methods than to play big brother.
Bank of America, for example has used sensor badges to monitor employee movements, tone of voice, how often they got up or talked to their fellow employees and a few other parameters. A similar technology was used by US Company Cubist Pharmaceuticals to determine how energetic employees were and the behaviour patterns that corresponded with high productivity.
All of this data is being collected in the name of predictive analysis and to maximize efficiency.
One of the more controversial monitoring issues is when workplace tracking extends beyond the workplace walls. Employees are sometimes being forced to download applications that would track their every movement, but what happens when your work follows you home?
The story of an employee at Intermex, who was required to download an app called Xora on her phone, went viral recently. Myrna Arias, the employee in question, found that this app continued to track her movement even when she was off the clock. She was fired for deleting this application because she did not want to be tracked during her personal hours.
Hitachi also recently unveiled a sociometric badge that purports to help measure the happiness index of an employee. The company’s top secret algorithm works by tracking the heart rate of the employee, the speed of walking, nodding your head, talking to other employees and overall physical activity.
Activities which promote employee happiness and push up productivity levels are then actively promoted to employees or may even be made mandatory.
It’s staggering to think that this sort of invasion of privacy is never talked about whenever concerns over tracking are discussed. One of the reasons for this is that a lot of this tracking and monitoring has the backing of the law.
Companies are well within their rights to monitor employee activity, movement and even communication if they can establish that it was work related. Most phones and laptops that are provided by the company come installed with tracking software, including keystroke logging, that provides the employer access to any and all communication.
This includes all websites visited, screen shots taken, social media, chat and instant messaging (IM) accessed, document tracking, and anything else accessed on company computers and phones.
These devices travel with employees to their homes and/or stay on their person more often than not.
With work becoming more remote than ever before, this delineation between company time and personal time is also becoming blurred. Bosses expect you to always reply to emails immediately even if you are at home or on vacation. Conference calls are frequently scheduled during vacation days with blatant disregard for the employee’s private time.
Should an employee be wary of doing something that may or may not please their employers all the time? Should there be no reasonable expectation of privacy?
It is only a matter of time before more and more employers start leveraging these technologies to track the lifestyles of their employees and mold them to suit their needs through positive and negative reinforcement.
The future that Orwell imagined with big brother breathing down our necks is well and truly here.
There’s nothing new about employers intruding into the private lives of their employees. I recall reading extracts from the employment contract of a nineteenth century shop assistant, that dictated where she socialised, the time she should be home after socialising, mandatory Church attendance etc.
The only difference now, is they are able to snoop on you, to make sure you comply with their control-freak demands.
This video speaks for itself…
Hear the truth behind what’s happening today in Israel from the mouth of an Arab woman…
And just in case you think this is just another attack on the ‘Religion Of Peace’. Have a listen to the nice peaceful Muslim cleric preaching to the faithful in the video below, to see what Israel is up against, and what is coming our way here in the West…

The South China Sea has become cherished and jealously guarded by China, so much so that she has built a series of artificial islands covering about 3,000 acres to buttress control of the area. This has also been done in an apparently arrogant disregard of applicable UN and international laws.
Not altogether surprising, given that the South China Sea is considered critical to the world’s annual trade via global shipping – worth up to $1.5 trillion according to estimates. The area is also very strategic militarily. Analysts seem to believe that part of the reason for China’s belligerence in the area is to divert attention from its latest local challenges: primarily a weakening economy.
The problem with China’s approach, however, is that valid ownership of that territory is contested – chiefly by Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan, Brunei and Malaysia. Not much that these countries can do about it on their own, though – their unenviable position is that of a 6-year-old child whose lunch money has been snatched by the overgrown neighborhood bully. Tensions with Japan have also become strained lately, for similar reasons.
Wouldn’t China perhaps be more respectful and cautious of the potential reactive threats posed by the United States? Not necessarily: these artificial islands are said to be similar to hundreds of unsinkable aircraft carriers in the South China Sea and have the potential to shift the balance of power in the region.
The Chinese seem to clearly have the US in their crosshairs. Based on recent reports, the Pentagon has established that a Chinese nuclear submarine designed to carry missiles that can hit the U.S. is likely to deploy before year’s end. The dreaded weapon is the Jin-class nuclear-powered submarine, armed with JL-2 submarine-launched ballistic missiles.
China has not been shy about revealing this capability, apparently as show of strength and for prestige, based on a comment attributed to Larry Wortzel, a member of the congressionally created U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.
Should the US as a superpower really be worried about all this?
The Chinese seem to think so. According to a comment attributed to PLA Navy Commander Admiral Wu Shengli: “… the submarine/missile combination is a trump card that makes our motherland proud and our adversaries terrified.” Not strange at all, given that the missiles could reportedly reach Alaska if launched from waters near Japan, and all 50 U.S. states if launched from waters east of Hawaii.
Even US military analysts seem to agree. In words attributed to Representative Randy Forbes, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee’s sea power panel: “This milestone in Chinese naval development should remind U.S. policymakers of the need to strengthen American sea power, particularly in the Asia-Pacific”.
These Chinese initiatives have ironically also been accompanied by PLA troop cuts, but there seems to be a consensus that this is just a strategic smokescreen. Its real purpose is designed to re-channel military budgets used to maintain troops, and increase investments into advanced military warfare technology.
It is speculated that these investments may include a new 096 Tang class nuclear-powered submarine able to carry as many as 24 ballistic missiles, twice as many as the Jin-class 094 submarines.
Yet, these latest developments may only be a reflection of the tip of the iceberg. In April this year, media reports highlighted that the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) revealed deployment of a new China YJ-18 supersonic anti-ship cruise missile on warships and submarines that analysts say poses a major threat to U.S. and allied vessels.
China’s then-current naval force of 300 surface ships, submarines, amphibious ships, and missile-armed patrol craft was also said to be rapidly expanding.
Andrew Erickson, an associate professor at the U.S. Naval War College is said to claim that one of the main challenges comes from fishing boats which are manned by civilians, but which may be conducting business on behalf of the Chinese military. The boats arguably “exploit a seam in the law of naval warfare, which protects coastal fishing vessels from capture or attack unless they are integrated into the enemy’s naval force.”
This approach also provides the Chinese navy “with an inexpensive force multiplier, raising operational, legal and political challenges for any opponent.”
Rick Fisher, a Chinese military affairs expert is quoted on the ONI findings: “China is building its naval forces for eventual global power projection….ONI is now suggesting, as others have already, that China could soon be projecting naval power in the same manner as the U.S. Navy…the Washington policy community has not yet started to understand, much less respond to this level of strategic challenge.”
Therein lies the real danger. And by the time the US fully awakens to it, the Chinese threat may well have become insurmountable, and far too late from which to recover from.
